May 08, 2005: Soulwax gig
I've been very busy lately and still trying to recover from the stag do last weekend. So this is a little late.
James and I found ourselves at the Highbury Garage on Thursday to check out the electro-rock 5 piece Soulwax (aka 2 Many DJ's) for the first time in about 4 years.
The garage is a great little venue. Small intimate and conveniently close to the tube. It is also, very very loud. Too loud in fact, to the point that I may never return. Maybe I'm getting old? But My hearing was not right for a day.
The support act we surprisingly good. Wannabe Ian Curtis front man urged the crowd forward to soak up 2000 decibels of dry faced synth tunes backed by hard drums and fuzzy bass.
Soulwax on the other hand, were rather dissapointing. Lead singer seemed to miss his cue a few times and the new material misses the mark slightly. A shame, as last time they absolutely blew me away!

Well, despite it only being a little gig, it's made the broadsheets...

Not sure if they were paying attention though - I'd say the crowd went wildest for the older, rockier stuff from their last record, 2000's Much Against Everyone's Advice...
