June 06, 2004: Top pub grub

Went to The Devonshire House last night for a special meal out. It's 3rd on Chiswick's restaurant poll & I can see why. I can also see why wealthy people manage to keep slim - the portions look tiny! Honestly though, quantity is perfect & the quality is not far off either.

My meal:

  • Fresh buffalo mozzarella with roast Italian peppers and black figs

  • Slow roast belly of pork with pea puree and Granny Smith apple jus gras

Steph's meal:

  • Caramelised onion tarte tatin with Montenebro goat's cheese

  • Ribeye of Scottish beef with pomme puree, confit shallots and new season garlic

I really liked the feel of the place. With contemporary decor & plenty of space whilst still managing to feel comfortable. Also has a cosy garden out the back, where they do BBQ's. I was impressed.

YUUUUUUUUUM!! Now that's the type pf blog I can relate to. I LOVE how you can recount the the exact meal! Have I ever told you I can remember at least one meal in every resteaurant I ever ate in?

How was the pea puree?

I suggested to Mat that he should get the slow belly roast pork because i remember you had it once and said it was lovely.

The food was really very good, my steak which i don't usually eat unless i'm out and it is cooked for me, was mouthwatering.

The place came complete with a screaming chef - must have been authentic!!
