June 16, 2004: Flight Of The Conchords

James & I went to see a folking fantastic parody band on Monday called Flight Of The Conchords. 2 New Zealander's - Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie - are in that from the Phones4U advert with the VW Camper van. With a friendly & charismatic appearance they performed many witty & ridiculous tunes including Bus Driver's Song, something about making love & Bowie which had me in hysterics within seconds.

This decent little comedy venue could only hold about 50-70 people, which made for a great atmosphere. The crowd included David Walliams from Little Britain & that guy from My New Best Friend.

Thanks to Kitta for having an MP3 of a live Flight Of The Concords track.

You can catch Bret & Jermaine in The Lowdown at the Albany on Monday 28th June in their warm up to the Edinburgh Festival.

They really were far better than I thought they'd be - the banter between songs was so dry yet so funny, and the songs themselves were so original...

From a song where two characters have a case of mistaken identity:

"Oh Jenny - I remember we watched Schindler's List. Was it Schindler's List? Yes it was Schindler's List"

"No - it was Police Academy 4"

"It wasn't that long ago"

"No - we watched it round mine on DVD"

"DVDs - they're great aren't they"

"Yes, so much clearer than video"

and so on...

Do you know about the movie they're both in? It's called Futile Attraction. We're still

finishing it off and people can get directly involved from anywhere in the world. All the

info's at www.makemarksmovie.com
