May 05, 2004: Finding Cool Tunes

So many adverts seem to use a soundtrack straight from my CD collection. But when I like them & I don't have them, I want to know where to get them.
Luckily, thanks to websites like Commercial Breaks and Beats we can find out just what these tracks are.

Recently, sounds that have really caught my attention are coming from that O2 advert with the speakers & sunflowers. It sounds PHAT!

The aforementioned resource did not have this particular track in it's database. This led to me finding What's That Tune?, which does much the same. Turns out the tune was indeed "fat" as a discussion board led me to download an MP3 of the advert from Norman Cook Online. The track was apparently commissioned by O2 & there is no full version available to buy or download.
There is however, hope that Fatboy Slim (aka Norma Cook) shall place a full version on his next album.

Not happy that I can't get it, but happy that I know. Information is power. Thank you Internet.

Indeed. I'd have easily believed the two guys in the Phones 4 U advert were two guys picked at random for the advert. After a little net research, I found out that they are, in fact, "Flight of the Conchords" - New Zealand's premier musicomedy act.

A quick e-mail to their management, and now I know they're playing the Monday Club (South Bank) and the Amused Moose in June/July. Woo yay!

YAY!! Thanks James! This is the easiest lead-in to my campaingn.

I went to the NZ International Comedy fest and who should be starring....but Flight of the Concords. Were they funny? Do Maori's rub noses? Do kiwi's not-fly? Do New Zealanders talk funny? Do Steph and Mat have to give it a shot? That's a big Y-E-S my friend!

Oh, and if you happened to see the front page of the NZ Herald yesterday...I can assure you that there isn't a civil war going on. ALthough Maori did descend upon Parliament, proudly showing off their Moko and weilding their Tiaha...shouting things such as "get out honki" and "hands off, we had it first" it's all sweetness and light now. No racism, never mind reverse racism here. Oh no! Unemployment? Pah! That's a 4 letter word in good ol' En Zed. And the fruit! It explodes in your mouth! That's how AMAZING it is!

All well and good Nic, but "don't encourage mat migrating to maori moko country" is a Googlewhack, and that's gotta count for something...

In fact, I just also found out that 'phlegmy flanges' is a Googlewhack. It's such a good one I had to share it with someone...

I'm lost James. Googlewhack??? Have I missed a page somewhere? Or is this some strange language you boys use with eachother? If so, I DO NOT want to know what "phlehmy flanges" are thanks very much!

Eeooowwwww!

Nic,

Oh, how you miss out being on the other side of the world...

A Googlewhack is when you put two words (no punctuation, just a space between them) into Google, and you only get one search result. Both words have to be in Dictionary.com (if they're underlined at the top right of the search page, you're ok), and the search result can't be a word list (a page showing dictionary/thesaurus lists etc).

Apparently, Phlegmy Flanges relates to a belly-dancing website. 'Whacks don't get much better than that!

I repeat the comment I made to Mat. Maybe you should 'get out more' (us geordies are ded cheeky eh?)

If being over here on the other side of the world means I miss out on discovering little nougats of wisdom regarding phlegmy flanges, then I'm staying put thanks very much!
